Developer of Somatic Experiencing®

Dr. Peter A. Levine

Peter A Levine, Ph.D., is the developer of Somatic Experiencing®, a naturalistic and neurobiological approach to healing trauma, which he has developed over the past 50 years.

Somatic therapy explores how the body expresses deeply painful experiences, applying mind-body healing to aid with trauma recovery.

“Trauma therapy for the future can be more important than trauma therapy for the past.”— Dr. Levine

Dr Levine uses several tools in his Somatic Experiencing practice and trainings for regulation, mobilization, social engagement, healthy aggression, and more. They include Smovey Rings, the Bellicon Rebounder, and more which both can be purchased from ZFITWellnessPerformance.com

Autonomic Nervous System and Trauma Recovery

smovey® Vibroswing for Somatic Therapy

smovey® Vibroswing can support trauma recovery when integrated into Somatic Experiencing Therapy (SET), a body-focused approach designed to release stored tension from trauma.

This therapy helps regulate the nervous system, restoring a sense of safety and control in the body. smovey® complements this process by regulating the nervous system, encouraging body awareness, easing physical tension, promoting safe movement & enhancing emotional regulation.

By integrating smovey® with Somatic Experiencing, trauma patients benefit from a holistic tool that addresses both the physical and emotional effects of their experiences.

Dr. Levine introduced the Smovey Rings to Somatic Experiencing® Practitioners as a tool in trauma healing work. The vibrations created by swinging the rings have been shown to be effective in identifying and regulating activated and dissociative states in the nervous system. The vibrations appear to synchronize with the natural vibrational frequencies in the human body, and as such they are experienced for most people as pleasant and calming body sensations. However for some nervous systems, the vibrations may bring about increased activation. The “felt” experience of the vibrations and the timely incorporation of core Somatic Experiencing principles  demonstrates to clients a poignant way to regulate and stabilize their nervous system.

“The Smovey rings are a useful tool for mobilizing the body in a contained, safe way. They organize energy through sound, movement and rhythm, helping to link the autonomic and somatic (systems).”
